NBGES hosts a set of annual events that bring together its three schools in spirit, purpose, and participation. From cultural tributes to teacher recognition and educational dialogue, we have so many reasons to come together and celebrate.
A calendar marked by learning, celebration, and community
Teachers’ Day
Held every year on September 5, this day brings together faculty from all three NBGES schools. Teachers are honoured for their service, participate in light-hearted competitions, and enjoy an end-of-day celebratory feast in a warm and spirited gathering.
Bharathiar Day
Since 2024, the event has been livestreamed for families and well-wishers.
Students across our schools commemorate Subramania Bharati through performances of his poems and patriotic songs. Cultural activities – recitations, speeches, and music – celebrate his ideals of freedom, equality, and empowerment.
Paattum Bharathamum
Our inter-school competition in Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam sees city-wide participation. Events span categories like “Ganamrutham”, “Anjali”, and “Karkata”. The grand finale features winning performances before a live audience of artists, educators, and families. The event has been live streamed Since 2024.
G. Neelakantan Annual Memorial Lecture
Each year, a respected thought leader addresses our students and teachers on education and life learning. In 2024, Shri P. S. Prabhakar (CA and Correspondent, P.S. Senior Secondary School) spoke on “Life Lessons Through Formal Education.”
Sir P. S. Sivaswami Iyer’s birthday
Held every year on February 7, this special occasion brings together students and faculty from all three NBGES schools to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sir P. S. Sivaswami Iyer. The day is marked by heartfelt tributes, expressions of gratitude, and a shared sense of pride in his enduring legacy, creating a meaningful and unified celebration across the institutions.
Lady Kalyani Best Teacher Awards
This award recognises exceptional teachers for their impact and service. Past awardees include Ms. Uma Shanker for her work in Montessori education and Dr. Revathy Parameshwaran of P.S. Senior Secondary School. The 2024 award went to a long-serving principal of a Chennai school.
Independence Day
In 2025, for the first time NBGES brought together all three schools to jointly celebrate India’s Independence Day on August 15. The event featured a grand march with flags, celebratory music from the school bands, and uniformed Scouts/Guides walking in unison. This was followed by an assembly, flag hoisting, speeches from dignitaries, and patriotic performances at our playfield.
Rangaswami Ayyar Awards
Every year, NBGES celebrates the birth anniversary of Acharya Ratna Sri K. Rangaswami Aiyangar, the distinguished former secretary of Lady Sivaswami Ayyar Girls’ Higher Secondary School and honorary secretary of the management committee. The event features a memorial lecture on educational progress, scholarship distribution to deserving students, and recognition of staff for their years of service.
